In school, I did a Africa News Broadcast project with my friend E.R.S for world history class. Please enjoy our script for the broadcast!!
E.R.S: News Anchor
Ruhee: On-site Reporter
Opening: Hello, and welcome to Starfire news! I’m E.R.S and today we have 4 stories on Tanzania to share with you. Here we go!
:INTERNATIONAL NEWS
E.R.S: When the garbage truck comes to pick up your trash, you feel a sense of relief with no smell in the house. But what if there was too much trash to pick up in one day? This is an actual site in the hills of East Africa. We’re in Tanzania with a field report from Ruhee.
Ruhee: Our top story is a thriller tonight. An electronic marvel turns into dangerous trash in East Africa including Tanzania’s largest city, Dar Es Salaam. It’s not the first disaster East Africa faced over the years sadly. The country in recent years have enjoyed have enjoyed increasing wealth but also an increase on electronic waste as a result of climate change. Behind me, you can see many garbage men armed with shovels hauling tons of waste from household products to vegetable peels. With the cost from living in a developing country, many nearby regions lack access to facilities and equipment to properly dispose the waste. However, people here are going towards solar energy to help fight climate change thankfully. It’s a grim sight here in East Africa. Thank you E.R.S.
:ZOOLOGY
E.R.S: Thank you Ruhee.
E.R.S: Many animal species live and thrive in Tanzania including zebras, giraffes, elephants, rhinos and lions as the most common ones. Most of these animals live in safaris and grasslands where visitors can watch them. Though they are endangered due to poaching. The Gombe Stream National Park, however, is a well known for their abundance of chimpanzees. It is also the same sanctuary where Jane Goodall did her research on chimps.
E.R.S: Will be right back with Ruhee and the weather report.

:WEATHER
Ruhee: Welcome back to Starfire News! Today is a pretty rainy day in Dar Es Salaam with monsoons coming towards the east. Humidity is a little above normal and high temperatures range from 70–75 degrees with 2 sunny days this week. Today, we have a high of 82 and a low of 74. In the south, we have heavy rain with occasional hail at times during the day. There is also a flood warning for the entire town. There are two seasons in Tanzania, the dry season and the wet or monsoon season. It is in a subtropical region with temperatures slowly rising and falling over the year.It is currently the monsoon season in East Africa so if you’re planning to visit, the best time to visit in July when the rain has cooled down. There are also strong winds in the area so be careful!
Ruhee: Now we are going to E.R.S on sports!
:SPORTS
E.R.S: Thank you Ruhee. There are many sports and sports events that happen in Tanzania. Football, also known as soccer in Tanzania, is the most popular sport although the team hasn’t done well in games over the years. Tanzania’s football team hasn’t qualified for the FIFA World Cup and have made just one appearance in the African Cup of Nations, back in 1980, where they finished last in the group for with just one draw and two loses. Also in 1980, Filbert Bayi and Suleiman Nyambui both won track and field medals in the Summer Olympics for that year. Cricket is a rapidly growing sport influenced by British rule. It hosted the ICC Cricket League División 4 in 2008 and finished in one win for the tournament. Today, the National teams strive for the win and try their best.
