Dark Shades In The Box

Aspiration over Obligation: A Poem

I rest my head next to yours

Our eyes meet instantly

Even though those same eyes collided

Interfered and despised

Mine gave signals

With no response

At first those eyes glistened with sun

But you decided to buy some shades

And even though you tried and tried to fill your body with sun

Eyes never lie

And those burns stayed

I held your hand one last time

Cold at touch

Cold at heart

Nothing radiated through it

Even though your sun was right next to you

Lying in a bottle

I ached watching you leave

Help was right at my fingertips

But did I want to reach for you

When your sirens weren’t ringing

For me

I retracted seeing you finally lifeless

But ease swept upon me

Comfort was inevitable

but cold was nature

I got up

But I swear a plastic bag grabbed me

l-le let me free

You can still see, you’re absolutely fine

It whispered

So cheers for the next 1000 years

Until I can face the sun without garbage

But for now

Let me clean up

Bottle in one hand

Pills stuffed in the pocket

You will never know
