So, here I am with a starving girl who I didn’t know at 11pm telling her horrifying story

This all sounds like one of those dreams that people imagine that are impossible to even dream about

This isn’t an impossible dream, this is our reality that we are going through

Enough with the descriptions, this is what she told me while we were sitting down in the living room

This girl is 8 years old, living a couple of units away from my apartment suite

Her name is Nora and she has been living through the most unimaginable pain I have ever seen a

Her parents were on their joint night shift, working tirelessly day in and day out

She witnesses her parents care more about her rather than their already hungry and ill stricken selfs

Even though she says she has a life of her own, life, which we all take for granted, seems to be escaping her every waking second

Nora says she didn’t eat or drink anything, counting water, for the entire day

She didn’t even know what time it was, seeing the look of guilt and dismay on her face when she found out

On a daily basis, she leaves the house for school and housemaid job and gets to lighten up with nature, her only friend

Their monthly welfare/ aid money on food and housing are getting lower and lower every year along with their money given to them on their jobs

Sometimes, her family doesn’t have enough money for a single meal, going nights without food

Her parents acting as if everything is ok with their cryptic and fake smiles….

By this point, I am scrambling to make something for this poor girl in my disastrous kitchen

I had friends over earlier in the evening with the largest array of food options to choose from and endless amounts of joyous laughter and chatter

Salad to pasta to sandwiches to soups, there were no empty stomachs while we put our dishes to the sink

I wish I could’ve left something for her………

To be continued.
