“The Lady, or the Tiger?” is a much-anthologized short story written by Frank R. Stockton for publication in the magazine The Century in 1882.” At the end of the short story, readers have to guess who is behind the mysterious door, the lady or the tiger. People have different opinions about the end so I decided to make my own ending to the story. Enjoy!
The king opens the door while everyone looks anxiously. The princess’s face looked bit pale and painful. Her lover stands in the middle of the arena with mixed emotions , though he felt confident that his lover would have given him the correct choice about the door. He pondered for a second, whether he is going to marry that lady behind the door and live a happily ever after life, or would his life be taken away in an instant? The princess just closes her eyes and waits for the moment. She felt betrayed about her losing her lover either way. She had no choice. Jealousy and hate feelings had played important role in her choice. After what happened, she realized that her plan succeeded.
Out comes the tiger from that door looking his most fierce at that moment everyone was waiting for. In an instant the princess’s lover is gone. Whatever is left from him are bones. The whole crowd got shocked and there was pin drop silence. Many people fainted, some are in tears. But princess knew she had made the right decision. If she would’ve let him marry a person she agonized, her life would’ve turned upside down. She was jealous about the lady becoming lover’s wife instead of herself. So she decided to just make him leave this world forever. If she can’t have him, nobody else should have him. She had the power to solve whether to let the tiger come out of it’s door or the lady come out of it’s door. The princess chose the tiger.
